Locate the pull-start spring coil and determine which of the two tabs holding it in place has malfunctioned. Attempt to correct the U-shaped bend in whichever end of the spring is faulty – ensure that the bend is in the correct direction so that is catches properly on the tab.
If your pull-start cord is in need of replacing now is the time to remove it by unwinding it and cutting off the knot holding it in place. Thread the new cord through the hole designated for the starter cord and tie a knot to hold it in place, then wrap the cord in the appropriate direction.
Reassemble the pull-start and tighten the screw to hold everything in place – remember to thread the starter cord through the intended hole and attach a handle to the cord if you have replaced it. If the cord is too long wind it to the correct length (for a video demonstration click here).
Replace the top cover and tighten screws holding it in place.
